Is your cookware and bakeware made from aluminum?
Many, but not all of our products are made from aluminum or have aluminum components.

Is there a link between Alzheimer's disease and Aluminum?
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports show there is no correlation between the illness and eating food prepared in aluminum cookware. The latest research available indicates that a gene mutation is the probable cause for the disease, not exposure to aluminum. Aluminum has been part of our environment since the beginning of time. It is found naturally in the water we drink and the food we eat. Aluminum compounds are found in a variety of products, including such items as buffered aspirin, antacids, processed foods, deodorant, and toothpaste.

Why won't my pressure cooker/canner come up to pressure?

  1. Inadequate heat supply. Make sure your range is set on HIGH HEAT.

  2. You are using the cooker/canner on a ceramic or glass top range, which is not recommended.

  3. The bottom of the cooker/canner is warped.

  4. Your range or burner is not flat and level.

  5. Food particles may have lodged in the lift pin cavity or the lock lever device in the cover handle. Models that have these features start with M-0-. Remove from heat and allow to cool. After pressure is down remove food particles from lift pin area and lock lever by washing these parts in hot soapy water. Refer to instruction book in the Cleaning and Care Section. The models, 92040, 92060, 92080, 92012, 92012, 92022, 92041 or 92051 from Brazil, do not have the lift pins or lock levers in the handles, so this is not necessary.

  6. The gasket is bad (old, cracked, ripped, etc.) and needs to be replaced.

  7. The cover is not in a fully closed position. Remove the cooker from heat and cool. Turn the cover clockwise until it stops to a handle-over-handle position. (Cover handle over Pan handle).

  8. The control is not seated correctly on the vent tube.

  9. The cover handle is loose (Tighten with a screw driver) or it is cracked (Needs to be replaced with a new handle).

Can I use my pressure cooker/canner on a flat top (glass or ceramic) range?
No. Our cookers are manufactured with a concave bottom, meaning a large area of the bottom is not in contact with the heat source. This will prevent the transfer of heat and not allow the cooker/canner to come up to pressure if used on a flat top range.

Why doesn't the pressure control on my cooker/canner "jiggle" as indicated in the Instruction Manual?
With the older models the pressure control did "jiggle" when the cooker/canner came up to pressure. With the newer models, the pressure control will make a "hissing" sound and emit a great deal of steam when it comes up to pressure.

Where can I get a replacement part for my pressure cooker?
We do not sell directly to consumers; however, you can purchase replacement parts at your local hardware store. To order parts over the phone or web, you can contact the following vendor:
Cooks Corner: 1-800-236-2433 www.cookscorner.com

How can I get an instruction manual for my Pressure Cooker?
Please contact us at 1-800-527-7727. Please have the model number or description of the cooker available when you call.

How do I get my pressure cooker/canner cover off when it is stuck closed?

  1. Cool the cooker to room temperature to assure the pressure is fully down.

  2. Remove the pressure control. If steam escapes, the pressure is not down. Cool to room temperature.

  3. Model numbers that start with M-0--- that have the lock lever in the cover handle need to be tripped by slipping a table knife blade between the cover and pan handle and slip the lock lever up into the cover handle. Hold it there and turn the cover counter clockwise to open. The models, 92040, 92060, 92080, 92012, 92012, 92022, 92041 or 92051 do not have lock levers in the handles, so this is not necessary.

  4. Reheat cooker/canner WITHOUT the control on the vent tube. DO NOT heat to boiling point.

What is Nonstick coating?
The chemical name for nonstick is Polytetraflourethylene (PTFE). It is simply a plastic that is very slippery that keeps food from sticking under normal cooking conditions.

What is Teflon®?
Teflon is a registered trademark of Dupont. Dupont invented the original nonstick coating. Today, there are a number of trademarks for nonstick such as: Silverstone, Maxalon, Technilon, Permacoat and Metal Safe.

What utensils are safe to use with my non-stick cookware?
Generally you should avoid sharp-edged utensils. If you have cookware that is "safe for use with metal utensils" you can use most metal utensils, such as forks, spoons and spatulas. DO NOT cut in the pan. Extremely sharp utensils, such as knives, may scratch the nonstick surface. DO NOT use rotary beaters in the pan. Please refer to your use and care warranty guide to determine if your cookware is "safe for use with metal utensils.

Will the nonstick coating make me sick if I swallow it?
No. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that composition of nonstick to be "food contact" safe. If pieces are swallowed, there is no danger because the nonstick coating is inert and nontoxic and will pass through the body.

Can items covered with nonstick emit fumes that are toxic to birds?
Yes. If nonstick pans are left unattended and extremely overheated the fumes can be deadly to birds. Never keep your bird in or near the kitchen and always provide good ventilation. Birds have very sensitive respiratory systems. Fumes from overheated nonstick is not the only possible hazard to your bird. Others include: burning food, fireplace smoke, tobacco smoke, scented candles, oven cleaners, hair spray, incense, perfumes, and cleaning product fumes. This list is not inclusive. Talk with your veterinarian for more information on caring for your bird.

What type of handle or trim is oven safe and to what temperature?
We do not recommend putting our products with wood handles or knobs in the oven. The wood trim will turn black and burn. Our black or colored phenolic (plastic), steel or rubber gripper handles are oven safe to 350 degrees. However, this does not include using them under a broiler. The oven should be completely preheated before placing a pan in the oven as temperature may exceed 350 degrees during preheat period.

Do I have to condition or oil the pan before using and after each use?
No. Wash in hot soapy water before using and after every use.

Why do you recommend NOT cooking on Medium-High or High Heat when browning or frying?
To prevent warping, staining, scorching, burning and damage to the nonstick surface. For best results, we recommend cooking on low to medium heat. Additionally, if cooking oil temperatures go over 400° F, there is a chance the oil could catch on fire.

Are your glass covers guaranteed not to break?
No. Our glass covers are resistant to breakage. Care should be taken when handling glass covers to avoid impacts that can cause chipping. Never place a glass cover directly on top of a heating element. Never use cleaning pads, sharp knives, or anything that will scratch and weaken the glass. Never handle a cover with a wet cloth or hot pad and avoid sudden or severe temperature changes.
